The best Merge Panda tips come down to three habits: keep your biggest pieces in one corner, chain merges quickly for the combo multiplier, and never let a settled piece rest above the dashed line. Everything below comes from how the game actually works, including its spawn odds, combo timing and game-over rules, so you can plan around real numbers instead of guessing.
If you’re brand new, the basic rule is simple. Drag to aim, release to drop, and two matching snacks merge into the next tier up. The ladder runs from Sprout to Emperor Panda, and our guide on how to get the Emperor Panda lists all 11 tiers.
Tips for every drop #
1. Read the NEXT preview every time #
The next snack is always shown at the top right of the screen. Before you drop, look at both the snack in your hand and the one after it. If the next one is a Berry and there’s a lone Berry on the board, make sure your current drop doesn’t bury it.
2. Know the spawn odds #
Only the five smallest tiers ever drop, and they don’t come equally often:
| Snack | Chance of spawning |
|---|---|
| Sprout | 30% |
| Berry | 26% |
| Dango | 20% |
| Rice Ball | 14% |
| Bao Bun | 10% |
More than half of your drops are Sprouts or Berries. A Bao Bun only shows up about once every ten drops, so if you’re waiting for a Bao Bun to complete a merge, you’ll often be better off building one from two Rice Balls.
3. Use the aim guide #
Touch the crate and hold. A dotted line shows exactly where the snack will fall. Drag until the line sits where you want it, then let go. There’s a short cooldown of about 0.4 seconds between drops, so tapping frantically won’t drop pieces any faster. One clean drop beats three rushed ones.
Tips for building the board #
4. Give your big pieces one corner #
Pick a bottom corner and keep your largest piece there for the whole run. Big pieces scattered across the crate leave awkward gaps that small snacks fall into and get stuck. This is the single biggest difference between short runs and long ones.
5. Build a staircase #
Next to your biggest piece, keep the tier just below it, then the tier below that. For example: Bamboo, Watermelon, Peach, Bao Bun, stepping down from the corner. When the smallest piece in the row merges, its result lands next to its twin and merges again, and a single drop can climb several tiers.
6. Feed small snacks on the far side #
Drop Sprouts and Berries away from the big pieces. They’ll merge up into Dangos and Rice Balls and gradually join the staircase from the small end. Dropping a Sprout onto your Bamboo is how you end up with a Sprout wedged in a gap it can never leave.
7. Leave headroom before big merges #
A merge creates a bigger piece, and it appears with a small upward hop. When two Bamboos become a Panda Cub, the new piece is noticeably wider than either Bamboo. Near the top of the crate that extra size can push the pile over the line. Before you complete a big merge, check that there’s room for what it becomes.
Tips for scoring #
8. Chain merges for the combo multiplier #
Merges that happen within about 2.2 seconds of each other count as a chain, and a combo badge appears on screen. Each merge in the chain is worth more:
| Merge in chain | Multiplier |
|---|---|
| 1st | 1x |
| 2nd | 1.25x |
| 3rd | 1.5x |
| 5th | 2x |
| 9th and beyond | 3x (the cap) |
The staircase from tip 5 is what sets these chains off. A drop at the small end that cascades up four or five tiers scores far more than the same merges spread out over a minute.
9. Put your big merges inside a chain #
Points grow with the tier you create: 3 for a Berry, 15 for a Bao Bun, 36 for a Bamboo, 55 for a Mama Panda and 66 for an Emperor Panda. The multiplier applies to whatever you create, so a Mama Panda made as the fifth merge of a chain is worth 110 points instead of 55. Two Emperor Pandas merging pop for a 500-point bonus, and a multiplier applies to that too.
Tips for surviving #
10. Understand the danger line #
A run ends when a piece that has settled stays above the dashed line for about two seconds. Moving pieces don’t count, so a snack bouncing past the line or a fresh merge hopping up won’t end your run. When a piece has been sitting over the line, a warning icon appears next to it. That’s the moment to find a merge that lowers the pile, even a small one.
11. Save the Panda Rescue for a cluttered board #
When a run ends, you may be offered a Panda Rescue: watch an optional video ad and every Sprout, Berry, Dango and Rice Ball on the board pops at once. You get one per run, and the offer lasts six seconds. Bao Buns and bigger stay put, so the rescue is most valuable when your big pieces are well placed and small clutter is what’s killing you. It only appears when an ad is ready, so you won’t see it offline.
12. Pause instead of panicking #
There’s a pause button at the top left, and on Android the back button pauses too. There’s no timer in Merge Panda, so if the board looks bad, stop and study it. You’ll often spot a merge you missed.
Tips for between runs #
- Check your missions first. You get three new missions each day, like “Chain a x3 combo” or “Grow a Watermelon.” Plan your run around them. They pay 25 to 50 coins each.
- Claim the daily gift. It’s 25 coins plus 5 per day of your play streak, up to 75.
- Double your coins after a good run. The results screen offers an optional ad that doubles that run’s coins, once per run.

Frequently asked questions #
Is Merge Panda more luck or skill? #
Both, but skill matters more over many runs. You can’t control what spawns, but you control where every piece lands, and a clean corner layout survives bad luck much better than a messy one. The spawn odds above are fixed, so nothing is rigged against you.
What’s a good score in Merge Panda? #
The achievements give a useful ladder: 1,000, 5,000, 10,000 and 25,000 points in a single run. Daily missions ask for 1,500 or 3,000 in one run. If you’re reaching Panda Cubs regularly, you’re well past beginner level.
Can you hold, swap or undo a piece? #
No. Each snack drops where you release it, and the only preview is the next snack. That’s why reading NEXT before every drop matters so much.
Does Merge Panda have power-ups? #
There are no boosters or tier-skipping items. The only help is the Panda Rescue, available once per run through an optional ad, which clears the four smallest tiers from the board. Shop items are cosmetic and don’t affect play.
Why can’t I drop pieces faster? #
There’s a cooldown of about 0.4 seconds between drops. It stops accidental double drops, and it rewards placing each piece deliberately.
